About you

You will have excellent relationship building skills and be able to support, negotiate and deal with complex, sensitive issues. You will be required to have a knowledge of diocesan structures, parish life and disability issues with an emphasis on advocacy not only for the individual and their families but also the broader disability sector.

About the role

The role of the Disability Advocate is to support people living with disability and their families and carers within the community of the Diocese of Wollongong. This includes the responsibilities for development and delivery of a framework for inclusion, advocacy in relation to service system and policy inequalities, assistance with navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), liaising with parishes and the broader community and representing Catholic Care and the Diocese in the disability sector.

What you will need

  • Qualifications relevant to the role, such as Health, Social Sciences/Welfare, Pastoral Care
  • Demonstrated awareness of disability issues
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate, communicate and negotiate with the ability to negotiate complex and often sensitive issues with clients, staff, parish contacts
  • Contemporary understanding of faith development, church and theology
