For the past 30 years, the Institute for Healthy Communities Australia Ltd (IHCA) has enjoyed a successful history of supporting continuous quality improvement in health and community service organisations of all sizes throughout Australia – both non-government and government, in rural, remote and metropolitan settings. As a not-for-profit organisation, our values and experience are shared through an aligned operating environment.
Based in Brisbane, IHCA Certification Pty Ltd is a subsidiary of IHCA and was established in 2002 as an impartial, non-government third party certification not-for-profit company. We offer our clients across Australia a cost-effective solution to complete certification against international, national, government and industry standards.
A large proportion of our clients are in rural and remote areas of Australia. We certify more than 100 community controlled Aboriginal Health organisations, and we are the only Certification Body authorised to accredit alcohol and other drug organisations under the Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA) Scheme.

About the role

IHCA is governed by a progressive Board of Directors with a wide variety of skills and experiences. Our Board is now seeking two individuals who have a strong personal belief in achieving IHCAs objectives to fill vacancies on IHCAs Board.

Each Director works closely with the Chair and other Board members to guide the management team in all aspects of the Board’s strategy, operations and financial performance in conjunction with the General Manager. Six Board meetings per year are held in South Brisbane during the evening on a weeknight. Meetings may be conducted via videoconference, should a candidate live in another area of Australia.

In order to complement existing skills and experience of the other Board members, applicants who can demonstrate industry skills and experience as a Chief Operating Officer or similar, working at a strategic level within a purpose-driven health or community service organisation.

In addition, applicants should possess core governance skills in several the following areas:

  • Non-executive Director
  • Corporate governance qualifications
  • Strategic thinking capability
  • Leadership and senior management
  • Risk management
  • Commercial acumen
  • Not-for-profit experience
  • Ability to function in a team environment.

IHCA requires the preferred applicant to undertake a National Criminal History Record Check prior to appointment.
