Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.
Thomas Embling Hospital is a 136 bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing
About the role:
This position will promote and facilitate a variety of campus wide therapeutic programs through group facilitation and promotion of participation in meaningful occupations over the weekend. The occupational therapist will play an active role in the development of a sense of community and connection across the campus, through promoting choice, participation and using engagement to support other therapeutic goals.
Duties:
- Group program faciliation, including open and closed groups
- Creating and fostering a therapeutic millieu to create a sense of social participaiton
- Completing intervention planning, evaluation and review as required
Skills and experience:
- Familiarity with the Model of Human Occupation as a governing clinical framework
- Strong written and verbal clinical reasoning and communication skills
- Confidence with planning and facilitating group programs- including activity based, vocational rehabilitation and social/leisure based
- Proactive and able to identify alternative solutions and approaches
- Understanding and awareness of the recovery model and a strong belief in the importance of occupation for health and wellbeing
- Experience in working with people with a mental illness and promoting functional skills and participation via occupational-focused practice.
Mandatory qualifications & registrations:
- Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
