About the organisation

Organisation Name : Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC)

AYAC is the national peak body for young people, and the individuals and organisations that support them.  AYAC acts in a leadership capacity for the Australian youth sector and offers policy advice to the Federal Government and other organisations on issues that impact young people and the youth sector.

AYAC has a long history of promoting strong and meaningful youth participation in government decision-making processes.  With a national mandate, strong relationships across and beyond the youth sector, and no stake in direct service delivery or to any one cohort of young people, AYAC is uniquely positioned as an impartial and neutral convenor of the sector.

AYAC has experience in consulting with young people from all backgrounds, experiences, from every State and Territory and from urban, regional, rural and remote communities.

AYAC’s membership includes young people, academics and youth policy experts, youth-led organisations, national and state/territory youth peak organisations, specialist national and state youth service and advocacy organisations, generalist welfare organisations operating at national, state and local levels with dedicated services for young people, and other youth focused entities.

The volunteer AYAC Board includes constitutionally required representatives of young people, national youth organisations, youth-led organisations, state/territory youth peak organisations and independent members. Board members include managers with many years’ experience in executive leadership roles in community and public organisations at a state, national and international level.
