Natural Hazards Research Australia is being established as a world-leading research centre for natural hazard resilience and disaster risk reduction.  It will be one of Australia’s largest repositories of research data, products and applications aimed at mitigating the occurrence and severity of natural hazards and natural disasters. It will build on current research into bushfires and natural hazards including the work of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre and its predecessor, the Bushfire CRC.

Interested in leading a team, contributing ideas and using your people, communication and project management skills as part of this dynamic, newly established ‘for purpose’ entity?

The Research Services team provides project management support to the Centre’s Research & Implementation team including dealing with researchers, research providers and end-users, progress reporting, and coordinating research funding applications.  The Team Leader reports to the Director, Research & Utilisation and has responsibility for leading and managing a small research services PMO to ensure effective management of a large and diverse portfolio of research projects.  This includes scheduling of workload to meet service delivery milestones, maintenance of research products and systems, stakeholder engagement and partnership development.

This hands-on, varied position provides the forum for a self-motivated, innovative individual to lead a team, create systems and engage with broad stakeholder groups across universities, research teams and end-users.  It will draw upon well-developed leadership, communication and contract/project management skills along with excellent organisational and negotiation capabilities.  Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, you bring an eye for detail and experience leading project teams and negotiating contracts.  A knowledge of and familiarity with research organisations such as university research teams, co-operative research centres or government departments and agencies will be well-regarded.  Location is open and will be based at one of the Centre’s national nodes in any state.  Sound like you?
