Based in Albert Park, this small centre provides full-time and part-time Education and care for 40 children at any one time and up 70 children each week This Centre has a current rating by Department of Education and Training as ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Framework.

The Centre has a long history of meeting the individual needs of each and every child regardless of their capabilities which is achieved by high staff/child ratios beyond the regulations in an environment that is conducive to all children maximising their full potential.

As the Second in Charge (2IC) your role is to assist in leading a team providing a high-quality Early Learner Program (1-3 year olds) that is based on knowledge, attitudes and skills obtained from previous training and experience that meets the educational needs of the individual children, their families and the community.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Supervise and direct Diploma Graduates and assistants within the room.
  • Encourage children to achieve their full potential, taking into consideration the philosophy and overall guidelines of the Centre.
  • Assist in ensuring the implementation of an appropriate educational curriculum and program in accordance with the National Quality Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework for children between the ages of 1-3 years of age with emphasis on early literacy and numeracy development and School readiness.
  • Maintain an extensive updated knowledge and awareness of the requirements and responsibilities of the centre.
  • Carry out daily routines and developed procedures.
  • Supervise and guide children as required.
  • Observe children and evaluate their progress in personal development, including hygiene, appearance and general health.

To be successful in this role you will need to have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, work effectively in a collaborative team environment, engage effectively with parents and children as well as be positive, enthusiastic, and proactive and have a high level of initiative.  A Degree in Early Childhood Teaching is essential as is previous room leadership experience.
