About the organisation

Organisation Name : Australian Marine Conservation Society

The Australian Marine Conservation Society is the voice for Australia's oceans. We are an independent not-for-profit charity. We deal with the big issues concerning the sea, working with the community to protect our marine wildlife, tackling major threats to our oceans and creating marine sanctuaries, places in the sea where sea life is safe from harm. Across our campaigns, we tackle climate change - the biggest existential threat to our ocean planet, with our Great Barrier Reef at the forefront. We are a committed group of professional and passionate scientists, educators and advocates who have defended Australia's oceans since 1965. Check out this short video highlighting some of the key impacts we’ve achieved for our oceans.

About the role

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Fair Catch Campaign Manager leads the campaign to secure and support the adoption and implementation of stronger seafood import control rules to prevent seafood from illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing from entering the Australian market, and ensure consistent national seafood labelling standards are applied to imported seafood. Working alongside the Fair Catch alliance, they will be responsible for establishing in the public’s mind the problems that exist with the importation of seafood from IUU fishing and prosecute the case for better regulation. They will also drive policy reform to improve traceability and transparency of all seafood sold in Australia and ensure imported seafood is not the product of illegal fishing or human rights abuse, to achieve AMCS’ goals for the protection of Australia’s oceans and the people, communities and marine wildlife that depend on them.

To achieve this, the Fair Catch Campaign Manager will work with the AMCS Fisheries and Communications teams and in close collaboration with partner organisations, fisheries stakeholders and government.

Please see the attached for a full position description and further details on the role including the selection criteria. For more information on AMCS’ Fair Catch campaign see here.
