Who is Back to Back Theatre?

Back to Back Theatre is a professional theatre company based in Geelong and employs a group of actors who identify with intellectual disabilities, called the Ensemble.

We have been creating work since 1987 and have made over 24 shows and toured worldwide.

We are looking for actors to join the core Ensemble.

 

About the role

 Back to Back Theatre are seeking actors and theatre makers to join our core Ensemble!

 Do you like theatre? Are you an actor or writer? Can you create stories or improvise? Back to Back Theatre is running an open audition in Geelong for intellectually disabled artists interested in joining our Ensemble in the week starting on July 15, 2024.

Back to Back Theatre

  • Makes new work for theatre
  • Performs shows in Geelong, interstate and overseas

Who can attend our audition?

  • Do you have a passion for theatre, film and TV?
  • Are you over 18 years old?
  • Do you identify as having an intellectual disability?
  • Can you come to Geelong in the week starting on July 15, 2024?
  • Would you be able to Geelong to attend a follow-up session if required?
  • Will you agree to participate in a safe, respectful, collaborative, inclusive and flexible audition?
  • We advocate for the inclusion and advancement of all identities.
  • We strongly encourage registrations from people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. 

 

How to register for an audition?

Registration:

  • If you would like to come to the audition, you need to contact us.
  • You can:
  • You will need to advise Back to Back of any access or support requirements you may need.
  • Registrations close on Wednesday 10th July, 2024.

 

Audition Week:

  • The audition week will be held between
    • Monday 15th – Friday 19th July in Geelong
  • You do not need to be available all day, every day, but we do ask that you be flexible.
  • There will be up to 15 people in the audition. You will play theatre games, improvise scenes, tell a story or explore movement.
  • If more than 15 people are applying, we will schedule a second or third group.
  • The audition will be around 3 hours with a short break.
  • You may be asked to return later in the week, for a second audition.
  • B2B will liaise with you to arrange the best session time for you – tell us if you have any clashes with other work or activities when you register.
  • You don’t need to have any previous formal acting experience.
  • The Artistic Director, Associate Directors and Ensemble will see how you work with others, how your imagination works and if you will be a good fit for Back to Back.

 

After the Audition:

  • After the audition, there will be time to ask questions.
  • The Artistic Director, Associate Directors and Ensemble will discuss the next steps.

Can someone help me with my audition?

You are welcome to bring any support people to Back to Back on the day. They will be required to stay outside the Studio, while you audition. If you would like to visit Back to Back Theatre before the audition, please let Christine know when you register.
