About the organisation

Organisation Name : QTAC

About the role

The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) is a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee, incorporated in 1990 by Queensland’s six state universities that existed in Queensland at that time.  We manage a centralised tertiary admissions process on behalf of member and participating institutions, ensuring equitable access and providing critical information for prospective students.

As Chief Information Officer, you will play a strategic role in shaping QTAC’s technology landscape to meet the demands of a dynamic environment. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with peers to enable organisational strategy, you’ll lead the development and execution of QTAC’s IT strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational goals while fostering innovation, agility, and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving the optimisation of IT infrastructure, systems, and processes to support seamless business operations.
  • Implementing agile frameworks and practices to enhance adaptability and responsiveness to emerging technologies.
  • Leading IT service management strategies with a strong focus on customer satisfaction, ensuring the needs of a complex set of internal and external stakeholders are at the core of all initiatives.
  • Acting as a peer advisor to the executive team, contributing to strategic planning, decision-making and organisational success
  • Promoting a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the IT team.

We are seeking a transformational leader with a forward-thinking mindset and a proven ability to deliver results in complex environments. While experience in higher education would be an asset, we value expertise and leadership over specific industry backgrounds.

Key criteria include:

  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing software development and IT operations, including agile development methods, cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure), and distributed systems using SOA or microservices.
  • Expertise in DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated testing.
  • Familiarity with Object Relational Mapping (ORM) technologies and software development methodologies (Waterfall, Agile).
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices, SOA, and client-server applications.
  • Strong project management skills with a focus on innovation, financial sustainability, and responsible cost management.

We are looking for an inspiring, people-focused leader who empowers teams to innovate and achieve excellence by fostering a culture of trust and openness that encourages new ideas. This individual should operate as a hands-on and visible leader, actively engaging with staff and stakeholders to drive success and ensure collaboration at every level.

This is an opportunity to make a significant impact in a respected organisation at the forefront of tertiary admissions. As CIO, you’ll lead pivotal initiatives that enhance QTAC’s service delivery and technological capabilities, driving growth and innovation.
