About the role

** Note: While this description is focused on the Treasurer role, we are also seeking volunteers for our Finance and Risk Subcommittee (responsible for best practice legal compliance, governance and financial sustainability frameworks) and volunteers for our Development and Stakolder Subcommittee (responsible for ensuring a strong and robust strategic focus on the fundraising, grants and stakeholder engagement).

Open Doors Youth Service is undergoing a period of unprecedented growth. We are seeking business and clinical professionals to join our governance team to help shape the future of our service. It is a very exciting time to join ODYS with what we hope will be a very fulfilling a meaningful way to contribute your expertise and experience in a volunteer capacity.

Open Doors Youth Service is looking for an experienced Accountant or Finance Manager to join our Board to help provide oversight, guidance, and support our growth aspirations. It is an exciting time to join the Open Doors team, as we are seeking to diversify our funding model and expand our portfolio of services. As such we are seeking new volunteers to fill our open Treasurer position, as well as a number of sub-committee positions. Ideally we are seeking volunteers who have a connection or experience with the LGBTIQ+ community however this is not mandatory.

ODYS has a paid part time bookkeeper and General Manager who will manage the daily financial requirements. You will join a Board staffed with a diverse, experienced and dedicated group of volunteers who are dedicated to enriching the lives of young people with diverse genders, sexualities, and bodies.

Open Doors provides support and services to enrich the lives of young people with diverse genders, sexualities, and bodies (LGBTIQ+). Our services include case management, individual support, counselling and mediation, advocating, supporting young people to access Centrelink, and referring young people to complimentary services.

Our programs:
Reconnect Program: For young LGBTIQ+ people between the ages of 12 to 17 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
Drop in: Meet other young LGBTIQ+ people in a safe and friendly enviornment where everyone can be who they are, whatever that may be
Jellybeans: A social support group for gender diverse and gender queer young people and those questioning their geneder identity
Young and Proud: A social support group for LGBTIQ+ young people aged between 18 to 24
Alcohol and Other Drug Intervention:Outreach services for those LGBTIQ+ and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with substance abuse issues
Queeriosity: The National Youth Week Queer Youth Fesitval, Queeriosity, is an extravaganza of art, music, culture, and community

Our services include case management, individual support, counselling and mediation, advocating, supporting young people to access Centrelink, and referring young people to complimentary services. Open Doors aims to raise awareness through community education and training to respond to LGBT Queenslanders` needs against homophobia, stereotypes and discrimination.

Mission Statement:
Open Doors Youth Service provide support and care to young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender against homophobia, stereotypes and discrimination.

Role of the Treasurer

The basic function of the Treasurer is to take responsibility for financial reporting and management of the organisation. This includes:

• Directly involved with developing the annual budget. As we win new funding and expand into new services, this includes reviewing the budget to account for new revenues and expenses

• Ensuring monthly and quarterly reports are produced and presented to the meetings of the Board

• Ensuring the financial requirements of funding bodies are met

• Providing information to ensure Board members understand the financial reports and increase the capacity of all members to understand the budget and financial position of the organisation

• Ensuring the accounts are audited in compliance with the Constitution and Associations Incorporation Act 1987, and are presented to members at the Annual General Meeting

• Ensuring funds are being managed within legal requirements, funding requirements, and organisational policy and procedure
