About the role

The Board of Common Equity NSW (CENSW) is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Board Director.

About CENSW.

CENSW is a not for profit, Tier 2 Registered Community Housing Provider and peak body for Co-operative Housing in NSW. Formed in 2009 it oversees the function and operation of thirty two rental Housing Co-operatives across NSW managing over 500 properties.

CENSW is unique in the marketplace as the peak body for Co-operative Housing in NSW and offers a very different business model than other housing providers.

Board Directors must be able to work in an environment of discussion and debate, support the principles of Co-operation which govern the co-operative housing sector, endorse the values of the organisation, provide good governance and leadership and have a commitment to social and affordable housing.

CENSW seeks to assist low-income families and individuals to live better and obtain a brighter, secure future through access to housing they can afford. CENSW offers rental accommodation in Sydney metro and select regional areas for people who are in need of low-cost accommodation and who qualify for social or affordable housing.Co-operative housing provides excellent housing outcomes for people on low to moderate incomes.

About the role

The CENSW Board consists of Technical and Cooperative Member Directors with a wide range of skills and experience in finance, development, cooperative housing management, advocacy and project management.

CENSW is seeking someone who will:

  • contribute to governance activities and shape the direction of the organisation
  • offer individual expertise in the area of law, human resource management or marketing and communications and
  • have strong alignment with CENSW vision and values, together with the passion and time to commit to a 3-year term.

Directors are expected to attend 6 Board meetings per year as well as participate in one committee of the Board.

CENSW offers a nominal sitting fee for Board Directors.
