About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about sustainability and social justice and who is keen to support Open Table’s mission of reducing food waste and increasing food security.

This board member (Secretary) will perform the following duties:
– Recording accurate minutes of Board meetings and distributing them in a timely manner
– Managing official correspondence and records of the organisation
– Assisting in the development and maintenance of governance policies and procedures
– Facilitating communication between Board members, committees, and stakeholders as needed
– Providing administrative support to the Board as required

All Board responsibilities and duties also encompass:
– Regularly attending general Board meetings and other important meetings
– Staying informed about committee matters by preparing for meetings, and reviewing and commenting on minutes and reports as required.
– Getting to know other committee members and building a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus
– Actively participating in developing and implementing Open Table’s strategic plan and other evaluation and planning processes
– Contributing to performance evaluations of the CEO
– Assisting the CEO and Board’s President in identifying and recruiting other board members that reflect the diversity of the communities served by Open Table
– Partnering with the CEO and other Board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
– Serving on sub-committees and taking on special assignments
– Representing Open Table to stakeholders and acting as an ambassador for the organisation
– Taking an active role in fundraising initiatives and raising the profile of the organisation

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications or attributes:
– Demonstrated experience in administrative or secretarial roles, preferably within a board or nonprofit environment
– Strong organisational and communication skills, with an eye for detail
– Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
– Executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the not-for-profit sector
– A commitment to and understanding of Open Table’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience
– Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and facilitating and building consensus among diverse individuals
– An ability to maximise current resources, seize opportunities and think creatively
– Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Open Table’s beneficiaries
– An individual who aligns with our values of fairness, inclusiveness, generosity, resourcefulness and collaboration.
