People Outdoors - "Adventure for All"

Outdoor Experiences for People Living with Disability

People Outdoors, a branch of the Australian Camps Association, was established in 1989 to provide outdoor recreation for people of all ages with physical or intellectual disabilities. The Australian Camps Association is a registered NDIS service provider certified with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and accredited with the Quality Tourism Framework.

People Outdoors run camping programs for people with a disability (physical and/or intellectual) aged 6 to adulthood. Weekend camps are conducted on a regular basis, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Groups stay in bunkhouse accommodation at accredited Australian Camps Association member campsites and all transport, accommodation and meal costs are covered for volunteers.

These weekend camps form the majority of our workload, but there are other program options for volunteers to select from such as overnight and school holiday camps.

Volunteers work on a one-to-one basis with campers.  Each camp or day activity has an experienced Program Leader in attendance and a People Outdoors staff member is always ‘on-call’ for the duration of the camp/activity.

People Outdoors utilises the services of many dedicated volunteers and staff to ensure that our programs maintain a high standard. Recruitment of volunteers is a constant and ongoing process. As the number of different programs that we offer increase, so does our need for more volunteers!
