About the role
Access2Arts breaks down barriers for Deaf and disabled people. We celebrate the unique perspectives, stories and aesthetics of Deaf and disabled artists. We demonstrate the value of telling authentic stories through art – including art that can challenge, reveal and reflect disability as a rich and intrinsic part of the human experience. Approaching our second decade, we are discovering what it means to be a small organisation providing services to the arts and disability sectors. We have faced many challenges along the way and celebrated many achievements. As we grow, so too does the demand for our work. We are paving the way for access in the arts and disrupting the notion of what access means to many people in the sector. Our programs are empowering Deaf and disabled people to engage in the arts and how they want to, as consumers and creators. Access2Arts is recognised locally, nationally and internationally as experts in access and inclusion and as thought leaders in the field of arts and disability.
Access2Arts believes everyone has an equal right to access arts and culture, but many Deaf and disabled people face barriers to that access. Access2Arts addresses those barriers by:
1) Building capacity in Deaf and disabled people who want to be involved in the arts at any level (including audiences, participants, artists, arts workers, leaders and board members), and
2) Building capacity of the broader arts sector to become more inclusive and accessible.
Our vision – We want to see a future where Deaf and disabled people thrive within an inclusive arts ecology.
Our values – We are disability-led, accessible and inclusive. We are focused on the need to be realistic and sustainable. We support and empower others. We encourage excellence and best practice.
