About the role

Event Information

The Wheelchair Rugby World Championships are held every 4 years and 2018 marks the year that it is coming to Sydney, Australia.

From 5 – 10 August 2018, the Quaycentre (formerly the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre) and Genea Netball Centre will be home to the world’s top 12 teams including the Australian Steelers who are the reigning Paralympic and world champions playing to defend their world title on home soil.

 

It’s a great way to get involved in this inspirational sport and support people with a physical disability and of course experience the thrills and spills of wheelchair rugby in a new way!

Volunteering with us is a great opportunity to share wheelchair rugby with Australia and the rest of the world and support our vision of helping people with a physical disability to develop and engage with the community through sports participation and recreational opportunities: “Changing Lives Through Sport”.

Dates: 5 – 10 August 2018

Location: Quaycentre (formerly the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre) and Genea Netball Centre, Sydney Olympic Park

 

Shifts: morning, afternoon and evening shifts will be available

 

Specific Requirements: 

  • Interest in wheelchair rugby and / or disability sports 
  • Minimum age of 18 
  • Complete a minimum of four shifts between 5-10 August 2018
  • Undergo volunteer training and learn information required to perform your role

 

VOLUNTEER ROLES AND TEAMS 

 

Spectator Services & Access Control Team

Volunteers will be assisting by providing information and directions, selling merchandise or assisting at access points at the venues. By providing quality customer service, the main focus of this team is to ensure that all visitors have an outstanding experience at the event.

 

Team Services Team

Team Services volunteers will assist with providing information to teams and generally supporting teams in having the best possible experience, moving team equipment from pre- to post game changing rooms, assist with team laundry services and more. This team will be located at various locations such as the competition venues, accommodation venues or the airport.

 

Marketing & Media Team

Marketing and Media volunteers will assist in the implementation and delivery of the marketing and media strategy during the event, by assisting with social media postings, help coordinate media at the event or help promote the event via various channels.

 

Operations & Logistics Team

Operations and Logistics volunteers will assist to ensure the successful delivery of the event across multiple functional areas. The Operations and Logistics team will support event staff and assist in behind the scenes and field of play tasks during the event.

SELECTION & TRAINING 

 

A selection process for volunteer positions will take place. Based on your application you will be invited to attend a group interview.  These will be held from April at Sydney Olympic Park.

 

A compulsory briefing session will take place closer to the event. In addition to this, some roles will require area specific training. 

More details will be provided closer to the event date.
