About the role

Would you like to become a volunteer mentor in on one of the most unique and innovative programs around? How about something you can do from your own desk, at work or home in just a few hours? Does training online, in your own time appeal to you? Then get on board with Beacon Foundation’s new work-readiness program called MyRoad and you can support young people in their transition from school to further education, training and work. We know that the road young people have to navigate post-school is filled with challenges and sometimes obstacles. No matter what your career journey looks like, you can help. As a volunteer mentor in the MyRoad program, you’ll deliver a structured session to a small group of students, via video chat technology. You’ll lead them through a series of modules around the need for key 21st Century Skills. You’ll help raise their confidence and aspirations by giving them insights into the world of work. MyRoad has been running this year since the beginning of August (after a successful pilot in 2016) and mentors have been reporting great satisfaction.

“Volunteering in the MyRoad program is rewarding and uplifting. Seeing the world through the eyes of a young person helps you understand some of the challenges new people into the workforce face and how you may be able to respond and adapt. It tests your social and digital skills along with communication, time management and leadership in a fun environment.”

Judith Charlton – AMP – MyRoad mentor, August 2017
