About the organisation

Organisation Name : Outloud Inc.

Outloud (formerly BYDS) has a 28 years history of initiating and running high quality arts projects with the communities of the area, involving over that time, literally thousands of young people as participants, audience, volunteers and artist/facilitator.

Our brief has been to work in the Bankstown LGA (local government area) over this period, an LGA that grew to encompass the Canterbury LGA 2 years ago - making it the biggest in NSW and creating opportunities for Outloud to reach and work with a new population - new schools, locating and mentoring new artists.

Outloud has a significant wellspring of goodwill from the community, based partly in the huge number of people it has involved in a positive fashion in projects since 1991. This is exemplified by the fact that two current Management Committee members are former Outloud participants.

The organisation is highly respected, with Tim Carroll receiving Citizen of the Year award in 2013 for services to community, domestic violence awareness and the arts, other projects, particularly RESPECT winning Zest awards and other praise.

Outloud has also provided a platform for other projects to prosper, providing rehearsal and performance space, contacts, networks and often funds to test out ideas: Bankstown Poetry Slam, 4 ELEMENTS Hip Hop, LinkedUp (young Muslim leadership and empowerment), Locked Out all being examples.

Outloud has fostered an generation of working artists, many winning awards and accolades.

About the role

The new Director of Outloud (formerly BYDS – Bankstown Youth Development Service Inc) will be responsible for running and growing the organisation that has, under out-going Director Tim Carroll, executed over 800 projects and programs with the communities of Bankstown and surrounds across a huge range of genres: writing and publishing, theatre, oral history, Hip Hop, dance and event management, music & domestic violence education (RESPECT program)                    : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmAT-V0Wk_AjVldIRPE-rsg

The Director role entails liaising with local schools, local government, community development organisations, artists, young people, funding bodies and other stakeholders.

The new Director will lead Outloud in new way, forging different ways of doing business as arts funding from government shrinks to unprecedented lows, having experience or knowledge in attracting funds from philanthropic bodies and foundations.

The new Director will work closely with the Bankstown Arts Centre (a Canterbury Bankstown Council venue) and the Director of the Arts Centre.

The role also involves managing a nicely appointed shared rehearsal/performance space with Urban Theatre Projects.
