About the role

Polyglot Theatre is a globally-renowned company based in Melbourne that creates, produces and tours Theatre for Young Audiences all over the world. Polyglot’s mission is to make innovative and daring theatre which provides all children worldwide the opportunity for imagination and adventure through participation.

We are seeking new Board Directors to support the company to achieve its strategic vision for the years ahead.

The role

As a volunteer Board Director for a not-for-profit organisation, you must have a passion for the arts and young people, be available for approximately six meetings per year and be prepared to make a contribution for a term of three years. We are based in Melbourne but may consider applications from leaders based in other locations.

Diversity and inclusion

We know first-hand that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds produce a more creative work environment that delivers better results. We are seeking Board Directors who reflect the diverse communities we work with, and we are actively placing diversity as a priority through this board recruitment process.

Polyglot collaborates with audiences and communities that include children and young people, people with disability, First Nations people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Much of Polyglot’s success is due to the accessibility and inclusivity of our work. We are developing a specialisation in making work with and for children with disability, which is leading to closer links with these children themselves, their schools and families, and with the broader disability community.

Polyglot is committed to building workplace diversity across all levels of our organisation, and we want to increase the accessibility and inclusivity of our practice. Diversity is central to innovation, and access and inclusion are key ingredients to unlocking our potential.

Board priority areas

While we are keen to hear from anyone with an interest in Polyglot’s work and skills to offer us, we particularly encourage applications from First Nations people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.

We are also specifically seeking candidates with these skills:

  • Accounting, with the willingness to step in the role of Treasurer in 2021
  • Human Resources
  • Philanthropy
