About the role
Our partner is a Mongolian NGO, born out of and now linked with a European social enterprise supporting reading and education.
They set up learning centres as social enterprises in rural areas around UlaanBaatar and offer English courses, business and leadership skills and a free library service, providing access to quality education for students living in remote areas.
Their capability programmes link talented people in Europe and Asia to collaborate and learn business and leadership skills, also helping the centres to develop as social businesses. They want to empower people to become self-reliant, responsible and confident. They currently support 9 learning centres in Mongolia, aiming to set up 2 new centres each year. These centres are locally run and staffed, profits are used to repay the initial set-up loan which is then reinvested in further learning centres.
You will be based at the partner’s main office in UlaanBaatar and will be working with the Country Director and the Programmes Manager. The Programmes Manager has limited accounting knowledge and will require mentoring.
They are lacking clear financial structure and procedures and need help making their systems more efficient. As the first volunteer you will be conducting a review of their accounting systems, procedures and controls, making and starting to implement recommendations for best practice. You will work with the Programmes Manager to create a clear accounting framework, cash management and bookkeeping procedures and an organisational budget.
Our partner will be able to recommend affordable accommodation.
Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Mongolia, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Volunteer Programme. Click for more information on AfID’s fee structure.
