About the role

Are you an accounting professional or auditor looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!?

Accounting for International Development (AfID) offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world, the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profits globally. Volunteer Assignments from 2 weeks to 12 months form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of organisations in more than 50 countries.

Background

Based in the luscious tea country hills of central Sri Lanka, our partner supports disadvantaged young people from the tea estates by helping them to access education and employment. They are seeking a volunteer to review their progress and provide mentoring and training to local accounting staff.

The communities in the tea estates live in impoverished, overcrowded and unsafe conditions and are at risk of malnutrition, violence, high mortality rates and limited access to basic education. The organisation believe that young people should have equal opportunities to develop and succeed, regardless of where they are born, their ethnicity or who their family is and strive to use education as a tool for social change through their education centres and social enterprises.

Your Role

The trust is seeking a volunteer to review their progress implementing new accounting software, systems and procedures, supporting them with training and guidance as needed, and ensure they have the capacity and understanding to maintain this.
