Our Mission / Objective

At BackTrack, we enable young people who have lost their way to reconnect with education and training, become work ready and secure meaningful employment. Most importantly we get young people 'back on track' by developing strong, happy & healthy foundations that result in positive pathways and full participation in their communities.

Our Services

BackTrack assists the development of youth by providing a multifaceted, evidence based approach to supporting highly disadvantaged and high-risk youth via case management, building resilience and promoting behaviours that lead to positive life choices and pathways.

BackTrack supports youth with work readiness training and skills, responsibilities within the community, and psychological and educational interventions. This support is provided in an environment that allows youth to feel safe and without fear of abandonment, to naturally develop a social fabric that they feel comfortable and worthy within, and which they voluntarily participate in. This environment surrounds youth with positive role models and positive activities that all lead to positive life outcomes and ultimately resilience to lead meaningful lives outside of BackTrack.

At any given time, 40 young people aged between 11 to 19 are involved in BackTrack’s programs.

BackTrack’s core daily activities are mapped to ACARA (The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) standards to enable youth to participate in skills developing activities that promote formal learning accreditation and life skills development to support work readiness and life beyond BackTrack. Youth keep records of participation and skills development under each of these programs and can choose to have core focuses aligned to their personal ambitions and interests.

Program activities include:

    • Paws Up: Animal behavioural therapy supporting self-moderating behaviours, leadership and self-confidence

    • The Paddock: Classroom learning focusing on literacy and numeracy with practical applications

    • AgLads: Skills based training focusing on agriculture and soft-skills required for employment

    • Iron Man Welders and carpentry work: Workshop trades training and artistic activities

All activities are delivered in parallel with individual case management support.

Additional program support provided by BackTrack supports the development of life pathways and include:

    • Warrah: Residential accommodation for homeless youth and supported living skills to enable independence and integration with mainstream society

    • BackTrack Works: BackTrack have recently set up a Group Training Organisation (BackTrack Works) which provides self-generated revenue to BackTrack via the delivery of local contract services and enhance the social impact which BackTrack creates. Work contracts are held in the name of BackTrack for delivery by youth within the program. Contract work under BackTrack Works enables youth who are nearing transition into employment outside of BackTrack to complete traineeships and apprenticeships, receive mentoring support to better transition into paid, permanent work outside of the core BackTrack program and earn income to support themselves financially
