Our Mission / Objective
Cancer Council Tasmania is a not-for-profit organisation which is more than 90% funded by the generous support of the Tasmanian community. Our mission is to minimise the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians and we aim to do this through advocacy, raising awareness of cancer prevention issues, offering support and information for those impacted by cancer and supporting Tasmanian based research.
Projects in Progress
Cancer Council Tasmania has the following projects in progress for which we are seeking further funding –
Financial Assistance Scheme –aims to assist Tasmanians diagnosed with cancer by reducing the financial burden associated with their diagnosis and treatment. This scheme offers a short term emergency payment towards an unpaid essential household account (electricity, 6 month car registration, telephone) to assist people living with cancer who are experiencing financial hardship
Outreach Support Services – we aim to meet the needs of Tasmanians requiring Cancer Council Tasmania Support to access services in their local community. We currently have staff available once a month in 9 locations around Tasmania and would like to increase this program.
Community Speakers Program – trained volunteers represent Cancer Council Tasmania to promote cancer prevention and health promotion messages to help Tasmanians reduce their cancer risk.cancer
Education Sessions – providing educational sessions and workshops to those Tasmanians impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
