Our Mission / Objective

The Geelong Community Foundation exists to make a lasting difference to people in the Geelong Region.

Our Services

The Geelong region has needs which are not being met from other funding sources. The Geelong Community Foundation encourages individuals, families, corporates and other organisations to make donations to meet these needs, now and in the future. These donations are retained as capital by the Foundation to build a perpetual and substantial fund for philanthropic purposes, with only the income from this capital used to make local community grants.

Our Beneficiaries

Impact areas for our funded programs include:

  •

Aged Care, Community Wellbeing, Training & Education, Family, Health, Heritage & Arts, Research & Innovation & Youth.

Your Gift Working Forever

Efficiency

Giving through the Geelong Community Foundation is an efficient and easy alternative to setting up a permanent, private foundation. There are no establishment fees, compliance issues or ongoing costs such as accounting, audit and legal costs. The Foundation 1% p.a. administration fee on capital covers all related costs.

Donor involvement

You can establish your own named fund for as little as $10,000. Donor advice is encouraged and is used to target issues of interest to donors, aligned to targeted areas of need in the community. Donors can remain anonymous or choose their level of involvement and profile. Opportunities will be made to donors to attend forums, grant presentations and information sessions.

Tax Benefits

The Foundation is a unique way through which tax deductible gifts can be made. Your donations go even further as earnings are subsequently exempt from tax.

A permanent solution

The Foundation is a long-term, appreciating community asset. All donations are responsible and ethically managed in perpetuity. The Foundation will continue to offer a lasting legacy to you philanthropic endeavours in our region.

How do I include the Geelong Community Foundation in my Will?

You have the power to shape a better future for our region and to strengthen our community. A gift in your Will, of any size, makes a significant difference.

The manner in which you wish to support the Foundation can be easily arranged.

        • Staff from the Foundation can work with you to understand your wishes and provide the documentation your solicitor will require to include a gift in your Will.

        • You may choose to work directly with your solicitor to make a bequest to the Geelong Community Foundation in your Will. To assist in making your gift, please download Instructions to my Solicitor – Bequest.

What is Philanthropy 500?

150 people @ $500 = $75,000 high impact gift to our local community
A new way of giving to the Geelong Community Foundation

“By giving $500, and having it become part of a $75,000 gift, I feel like a major donor. The impact we can make as a group is inspiring” – Bridgette Kelly, Chair, P500 Committee

Philanthropy 500 (P500) is the starting point of your philanthropic journey. It harnesses the power of collective giving to fund transformative grants through the combined contributions of individuals, families and businesses.

P500 provides an accessible entry point for like-minded donors across all generations to pool their donations, support their community and experience the grant-making process first-hand. Events are held for P500 donors throughout the year that provide education on their chosen impact area, offer networking opportunities, celebrating shortlisted grantees and selecting the final grant recipient.

How it works

P500 aims to highlight unmet needs in our community, to increase involvement in philanthropy across Geelong and support life-changing community programs. Our strategy is to make one primary grant each year and to grow an endowment fund collectively.

In 2018 our goal is to engage 150 people to provide a $500 donation which will be pooled to make a $37,500 grant to a local charity of the group’s choosing and to add $37,500 to the P500 Sub Fund. Donations are tax-deductible. The P500 Sub Fund provides a lasting gift to our community with the interest from this fund to be added to the P500 grant each year.

Grant Theme

In 2017, the inaugural P500 grant had a focus of community wellbeing in the Geelong region. A survey of P500 donors in January confirmed that the grant theme for 2018 will be youth.  Donors will gather at a special event in November to hear finalist presentations and vote on which local charity, providing support to young people, will receive a transformative grant of $37,500.
