Navitas Education Trust Calls for 2017/18 Grant Submissions

Global education provider Navitas Limited has launched the 2017/18 Navitas Education Trust (NET) grant program with a call for submissions from education-focused charities and not-for-profit organisations in Australia.

The NET was established by Navitas in 2013 to support not-for-profit organisations and activities that improve both access to and quality of education for disadvantaged learners around the world.

To date, Navitas has contributed $2 million to the NET and distributed nearly $1.1 million in grants to support education-based initiatives.

The foundation said Australian not-for-profit organisations could apply for up to $100,000 per year for up to three years.

Navitas is a global education provider of pre-university and university programs, English language courses, migrant education and settlement services, student recruitment and professional development in 31 countries.

Previous recipients of NET funding include:

• Classroom of Hope, an Australian organisation that provides access to quality education for vulnerable and poor children in developing countries
• The Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN), a not-for-profit organisation that provides scholarships and mentoring to high needs schools and bright but disadvantaged students in Australia
• Room to Read, an American  NFP that works with local communities and governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and weaken gender imbalances that negatively impact education accessibility
• Hagar, an international organisation that is committed to the protection, recovery and reintegration of women and children who have suffered severe human rights abuses.

Navitas Group CEO Rod Jones said as a company with education as its core purpose, Navitas was proud to partner with and support like-minded organisations to improve education standards around the world.

“Our success has been built on delivering quality education programs to thousands of learners, so it is important to us to spread that success in a way that enhances access to education for disadvantaged people around the world,” Jones said.

“We encourage any charitable organisations with pedagogical projects or interests to apply for Navitas Education Trust funding to help us continue to bridge the educational gap that still exists.”

Founder and CEO of Classroom of Hope Duncan Ward said the Navitas support gave his organisation the resources it needed to achieve its vision of helping children in disadvantaged countries access quality education.

“Navitas provided valuable resources when we were just a small operation starting in Perth, Australia. Because of what they saw in us, we have been able to help over 9,000 children across the world access education and empower them to have more control over their futures,” Ward said.

“We have also been able to expand our initiatives to other countries, including Laos, Rwanda, Indonesia and Thailand and bring much needed hope to even more children and communities.”
