Breaking the Mold: Our Path to Reimagining Therapy at Superyou
9 June 2025 at 10:19 pm
We wanted to share our story not just what’s behind the Superyou brand, but to highlight the good that’s happening, to encourage brilliant clinicians to feel proud and excited to join the industry, and to help more people understand the true benefits of allied healthcare.
When Superyou was founded in Perth just a few years ago, we had one bold idea in mind: to reimagine therapy. Today, that idea has become a reality. Superyou delivers a full range of allied health services, from occupational therapy to early childhood intervention, but more importantly, we challenge how these services are traditionally delivered.
In an environment where headlines often focus on workforce shortages, long waitlists and systemic stress, we believe it’s time to change the narrative. While these challenges are real, so too is the innovation, dedication, and progress being made every day by providers, professionals, and organisations who are deeply committed to doing things differently. Whether it’s helping a child communicate more confidently, supporting a young adult with important life skills to foster their independence, or encouraging one of our team members to step into leadership for the first time, we’re driven by a single purpose: to inspire our clients and team to redefine what’s possible.
Reframing the NDIS Provider Narrative
The healthcare landscape, particularly for NDIS providers, comes with its fair share of challenges. Those headlines are accurate, there are high turnover rates, workforce shortages, and long wait times which have become prevalent concerns. According to the NDIS Workforce Retention Survey conducted by the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA), the NDIS workforce experiences an annual turnover rate of 17-25%, significantly higher than the average across all sectors. Allied health workers are the ones who are reporting least satisfaction with their roles in the NDIS, reporting the highest levels of burnout and lowest levels of engagement.
At Superyou, we began by understanding the frustrations therapists in the sector were experiencing and removing them. We’ve built a workplace that’s always listening and focused on creating the best environment for our team and clients alike. This intentional approach has shaped a unique proposition: one that not only allows us to operate in the NDIS landscape, but to thrive in it.
Our team tells us they feel comfortable suggesting improvements, sharing ideas, and identifying new opportunities, creating a culture of trust and psychological safety. In our most recent Employee Pulse Survey, 90% reported they feel safe to speak up and share their ideas and feedback and 84% said they love the workplace culture at Superyou. Our clients tell us they notice the impact too, through the energy, care and consistency of our team.
Together, this has helped Superyou become one of Australia’s fastest-growing startups, delivering strong financial outcomes and a culture where people feel supported, have fun, and achieve great results for clients. “Superyou has a unique, culture which is supportive, safe and fun. Its carefully curated and is protected from the top down. Our Leadership team takes the time to connect with each staff member, welcomes feedback and is open to change”. Christy Watterson, Senior Speech Pathologist.
Investing in Our People and Services
Our commitment to our employees is evident in our growth trajectory and our numbers back that up. In just three years, we’ve expanded from a three-person team to now 130+ employees, serving over 3,000 clients, and achieving a revenue of close to $16 million in 2024-25. If we were part of the Australian Financial Review’s recent Fast Starters list, we would have ranked in the top 10 in the country based on the revenue growth of Australia’s fastest growing businesses between 2022 and 2024. These numbers are more than just metrics; they reflect our dedication to investing in our people and delivering exceptional services.
While we are proudly a not-for-profit organisation, we believe that our financial sustainability is critical to fulfilling our mission. As our Managing Director, Nebs Franich, puts it, “financial sustainability allows us to continually invest in our team and clients, expand access to our services and innovate how therapy is delivered”.
Reimagining Therapy for Better Outcomes
At Superyou, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We take a personalised, collaborative approach, grounded in a deep understanding of each individual and their family. Our neurodiversity-affirming practices ensure therapy is evidence-based, respectful, and truly aligned with each client’s goals. We celebrate the diverse ways people experience the world and tailor our support accordingly. Most importantly, our team is empowered to think creatively and flexibly to help clients achieve meaningful outcomes on their own terms.
We also prioritise the client experience by challenging standard industry conventions. For example, we don’t believe it’s right that when a family wants to make a change in their scope of services with a provider, they are presented a 10+ page contract they must sign to agree to the change. That’s why we’ve adopted verbal consent processes at Superyou, which means when someone tells us they want to make a change, we can act on it there and then.
Our client-centric approach has resulted in an 87% net satisfaction rate however, we’re not stopping there. We continuously seek ways to improve and adapt our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
Looking Ahead
While the industry grapples with negativity, workforce attrition and service delivery challenges, Superyou remains steadfast in our mission to reimagine therapy. We believe that by investing in our people, embracing innovation and maintaining a relentless focus on client outcomes, we can set a new standard for allied health services. Change is a constant in this sector and we’re embracing it. We’re excited about what’s next.
At Superyou, we’re proud to celebrate what’s working, support those making a difference, and inspire confidence in the future of our allied health. We hope this gives you a fresh perspective. For more about who we are and what we do, visit superyou.org.au or get in touch at hello@superyou.org.au.
