Community Correctional Services (Victoria) is looking to forge partnerships with Not for Profit Agencies.

CCS puts offenders on court-imposed orders to work to assist Not for Profit organisations across Victoria.

In 2007/08, offenders on community orders completed 700,000 hours of community work across Victoria, and more than 1,000 organisations benefited from the work and skills of offenders in a vast array of areas including charities, environmental groups, aged care facilities, community centres and more.

Corrections Victoria can assist Not for Profit agencies with jobs that can be carried out at a CCS office including packing or sorting of materials, inserting marketing materials in envelopes and packing show-bags.

Corrections Victoria can also provide Individual Placements or Community Work Teams at Not for Profit sites, where groups of offenders can assist in a whole range of work activities from gardening, maintenance, landscaping, construction, cleaning to recycling goods for the community.

A Corrections spokesperson says working with offenders gives community organisations an opportunity to help rehabilitate and re-connect offenders with their local community.

The department says there are inspirational stories from long-term partners of offenders who have come back well after their court hours have been completed to volunteer with the organisation they worked at.

As well the department says research shows offenders who are given work opportunities are less likely to re-offend.

Justice Departments in each State offer similar partnerships with Not for Profit organisations.
