Parent Connect In Melbourne's West - Advertorial

Glen Orden Primary School, Infoxchange Australia, Education Foundation, CREATE (Geelong) Inc and Heathdale Neighbourhood Renewal (DHS) have signed a partnership agreement that will help to provide low income families with access to computers and the internet.
Parent Connect at Heathdale is a Grassroots Networking – www.grassroots.org.au – project aimed at addressing disadvantage in Heathdale. The project seeks to enable low income families with access to services and opportunities that are readily available to other Victorian families. In particular, the aims are:
– To better connect parents with the Glen Orden Primary School in Heathdale
– To encourage social networks amongst families.
– To provide access to information technology for those normally excluded from its benefits
– To increase skills and educational opportunities for the families
– To provide networked computer access in the homes of these families
Funding has been secured for the project from the Helen McPherson Smith Trust, Neighbourhood Renewal (DHS) and Multi Media Victoria.
The 18 month strategic plan was presented to the Parent Connect at Heathdale steering committee in December 2006.
The commencement of training and delivery of Green PC computers to the 100 eligible Glen Orden Primary School parents will begin in February 2007.
The Parent Connect at Heathdale strategic plan also involves widespread community consultation, a specifically designed Parent Connect at Heathdale web portal, a community enterprise development project that will foster positive relationships between Parent Connect at Heathdale participants and local businesses and final evaluation conducted by Victoria University.
