Kids Under Cover Goes National

Victorian charity Kids Under Cover, led by high profile car dealer Ken Morgan, is making moves to become a national organisation.
Morgan has handed over the role of state chair to focus on the ambitious plan which will see KUC roll out a pilot program in Queensland in 2007.
KUC was established in 1989, raising funds and constructing purpose-built housing such as bungalows for homeless and at-risk young people.
The new Chair will be board member Sarah Davis.
Morgan says his new focus and drive will be the move to becoming a national program while admitting that it is an ambitious plan.
However he says ultimately he wants every child and family in crisis in Australia to have access to KUC services.
Morgan says the move cannot be achieved without corporate assistance, a dedicated board and careful planning.
The first stage will be to run a pilot program in Queensland. St. Vincent de Paul has contributed $50,000 towards expansion into that state.
Discussions with local community organisations will gauge their response to a proposed bungalow program.
Through the Shane Warne Foundation and SEEEN (Social Economy Executive Education Network), KUC’s Executive Director Petrina Dorrington attended a two week NFP leadership program at Stanford University.
During this time, Dorrington undertook a study tour of the USA and UK visiting Not for Profit organisations which have replicated their programs on a national basis.
Dorrington says KUC is at another pivotal point in its 17 year development and in order to become a national entity it must learn from organisations that have experienced the challenge first hand.
