Nominate for the 2006 Justice Awards
20 July 2006 at 1:07 pm

Nominations are now open for the NSW Law and Justice Foundation 2006 Justice Awards. And, for the first time, you can make a nomination online.

Now in their eighth year, the Justice Awards recognise the contributions individuals have made to improving access to justice in NSW, particularly for socially and economically disadvantaged people.

The awards are a unique opportunity to acknowledge the efforts and contributions of the many individuals and community organisations who are working to improve access to justice, particularly for people who are socially and economically disadvantaged.

Anyone who knows an eligible candidate should nominate them for an Award in
recognition and appreciation of their efforts on behalf of people who have difficulty
accessing and negotiating the justice system.

These can include people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, low-income
earners, Aboriginal people and people with mental illness.

The Foundation has several Awards, which can recognise outstanding achievement
over a period of time or a single activity/project which improves access to justice:

the Justice Medal presented to an individual for outstanding achievement;
the Aboriginal Justice Award presented to an Aboriginal individual/group of individuals;
the Law and Justice Volunteer Award presented for voluntary work to an
individual or a group of individuals. Current legal practitioners are not eligible for
nomination;
the Pro Bono Partnerships Award presented to private law firms and
community organisations/legal centres working together on a pro bono basis.

Nominations for all Awards close on 14 August 2006.
