Legendary actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman wants to give ten donations of $100,000 to charities across Australia in 2006 – in the full glare of television cameras.

The $100,000 donations will be decided on a basis of need. Any charity, big or small, with a specific individual project can apply.

According to Paul Newman’s Foundation each project will be considered entirely on merit and not on the size or reputation of the charity making the request – the focus is all about making a difference.

Interestingly, Newman chose a popular national morning television program to reveal his keenness to donate $1million to Australian charities in 2006.

The Seven Network’s Sunrise program announced the plan and each week from Monday 16th October, Sunrise will visit one of the successful charities to present their cheque for $100,000.

Newman’s Foundation called Paul Newman’s Own insists that the profits from his international food business be donated back to the country where they are generated.

To date his foundation has donated over $250 million worldwide and over $9 million to Australia.

It’s all part of ensuring Paul Newman’s Own tongue-in-cheek edict regarding his hugely successful salad dressings and pasta sauces – “Shameless Exploitation in the Pursuit of the Common Good”.

Paul Newman’s Own Foundation is accepting expressions of interest to registered charities until 5.0pm on June 30th 2006.
