AdPost Pricing Delay

The recent increase for the AdPost service foreshadowed by Australia Post has been delayed due to pressure from the community and the ACCC.

Australia Post Chairman, Linda Nichols says the increase has been before the ACCC for six weeks to consider the level and timing of the proposed pricing changes.

Nichols says concerns from both the community and the ACCC have been taken on board and understood and Australia Post has decided to delay the increase while a review of the timing of its introduction is carried out.

Nichols says in particular, AP has considered community concern about the timing of the changes in a period of slow economic growth and the uncertainty surrounding the implementation of the new Privacy Legislation.

However, Nichols stresses that Australia Post is committed to restructuring AdPost pricing, however further consultation will allow this to be done in a way that minimises customer impact and encourages the continued growth of Direct Mail.

In June (Volume 3 Edition 12) Pro Bono Australia reported that Australia Post was planning a two-stage increase of the AdPost service of around 10% in November 2001 and a further 9% in November 2002.

At the same time Australia Post advised of its intention to introduce a new mailing category for registered charities which would see mailings sent out at the current AdPost rates.
