During the debate the Attorney General moved 23 Government amendments which he says will improve the balance and certainty of the co-regulatory privacy scheme for business and individuals.
The amendments relate to the small business amendment, the media exemption and National Privacy Principles. You can obtain a copy of the National Privacy Principles at the Attorney-General’s web site at www.law.gov.au/privacy/NNP.html.
The Federal Privacy Commissioner has been holding workshops around the country to help organisations familiarise themselves with the legislation and its impact on many organisations.
It has also set up the Privacy Connections Network so organisations can receive information and assistance. To join the network send an e-mail to privacy@privacy.gov.au or call the Hotline on 1300 363 992. For more details contact Maxine Loynd on (02) 9284 9721.
