More Significant Women

Carlie Martin from the Australian Association of Humane Research has taken up the offer by the Prime Minister’s Office of the Status of Women to supply names to help compile a list of significant women in Australia. (Edition10, 11th Sept)
Martin has nominated her boss and founder of the Association, Elizabeth Ahlston.
Her impassioned nomination says Ahlston and a small group of friends set up the Association in 1979. Ahlston ran the organisation single-handedly in the early days from her own home, while holding down a full time job… she has worked unpaid for 21 years.
Now, officially retired and aged 71 her work (very often full time) for the Association continues, including the setting up of two trust funds; the New Educational Aids in Medicine and Science Trust and the Medical Advances Without Animals Trust.
