Wheelchairs for the World

American property developer, Kenneth Behring has pledged $15 million to a new international effort to deliver one million wheelchairs around the world by 2005.
Behring’s effort has been organised through his newly established Wheelchairs for the World Foundation which is dedicated to providing wheelchairs to men, women and children around the world who cannot afford them.
The Foundation estimates that there are 20 million people needing wheelchairs but don’t have access to one.
The initial funds will help deliver an estimated 30,000 wheelchairs to groups in 58 countries.
Behring’s goal is to raise another $150 million over the next five years and he says he will be going into the boardrooms, foundation offices and homes of wealthy individuals and asking for their help.
