Katherine Ellis, the CEO of Business Working with Education Foundation (BWE) and former CEO of the youth development Not For Profit, Reach Foundation, is relocating to London to and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Ellis says the new role as Director of the Youth Affairs Division will see her lead a team working with the governments of the 54 Commonwealth countries on the development of policy and programs for the empowerment of their young people (aged 15-29).
“I’m very interested in youth development in an international development context, so I couldn’t ignore this opportunity, even though the work with BWE is interesting and important and I wasn’t looking for a new role,” said Ellis who heads off in mid-March.
“Building the BWE Foundation has been a challenging and rewarding experience, and I am pleased that it is well set for the next phase of development – with a strong team and board, an important strategic focus, a network of engaged stakeholders, and some great initiatives in progress that will impact positively on young people’s education.“
The BWE Foundation is in the process of finding Ellis’ successor and has engaged an executive search consultant.
The BWE Foundation’s vision is that children and young people in government schools excel at life.
“Our mission is to be the connection between business, philanthropy, government education and the Not for Profit sector in order to shift the needle on outcomes for children and young people in government schools.”
