The Australian Communities Foundation (formerly the Melbourne Community Foundation) has appointed Clare Brooks to the role of chief executive.
Brooks joins the organisation from the Community Foundation Network (CFN) where she worked with the 58 community foundations in the United Kingdom, doubling the size of the network and transforming the sector to become a significant player in the UK philanthropy industry.
During her 12 years at CFN, she worked as the Philanthropy Manager and Deputy CEO.
The chair of the Australian Communities Foundation, Marion Webster, said that Brooks’s work in countries that were struggling to develop civil societies, together with her experience working with communities and community foundations in the UK has given her “a deep appreciation of the way community foundations are such a powerful vehicle for enabling ordinary people to mobilise resources and come together to solve local problems”.
“Clare is already known to many in the philanthropic sector in Australia because of her international role.
“She comes to the Foundation with an absolute commitment to advance the vision of building community philanthropy, while at the same time bringing some fresh ideas and new opportunities,” Webster said.
Brooks will commence in her new role on March 19.
