The nib Foundation has announced almost $300,000 in new community partnerships awarded to support 10 innovative community-based programs that meet the needs of young people and carers.
nib Foundation Chairman, Keith Lynch, said the Foundation was proud to support local initiatives that foster community engagement and improved health outcomes.
“We recognise that often the best community health programs are run by locals, for locals,” Lynch said.
Individual program funding ranged from between $6,000 and $50,000.
The beneficiaries of nib foundation’s 2012 Community Grants program are:
- Assistance Dogs Australia: Assistance Dogs Training (National)
- Association of Genetic Support of Australasia: Unmet Needs in the Rare Disease Community (Hunter, NSW)
- Educare: i-Care Young Carer Program (Hunter, NSW)
- Family Planning QLD: Youth Partners Sexual Health and Relationships Education Program, (Sunshine Coast, QLD)
- OzHarvest: Food Rescue Program (Lower Hunter, NSW)
- Riding for the Disabled NSW: Riders and Horses (Tweed Heads, NSW)

Lynch said more than 100 applications were received for the third annual Community Grant round demonstrating the ongoing need for funding across the country.
“The Not for Profit and charity sector continue to face increasing demand for their services throughout Australia, placing extra financial pressure on these important community focused organisations,” Lynch said.
“As such selecting our 2012 recipients wasn’t an easy process, but we believe these programs will deliver material change to their local communities,” he added.
Since its establishment in October 2008, nib Foundation has committed more $10 million in funding to health and wellbeing initiatives.
