Welfare peak body, the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has announced the first round of speakers for its national conference in March.

The annual conference, this year called Community: The Heart of the Economy will be held in Adelaide on March 25 & 26.

The confirmed speakers include Elizabeth Broderick, Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission; Richard Coverdale, Director, Centre for Rural Regional Law and Justice, Deakin University; Greens Senator Rachel Siewert and Julia Slay, New Economic Foundation, United Kingdom.

ACOSS says that with the date now set for the Federal Election, policy debates on funding important social investments such as the NDIS and Gonski's education reforms are “more pertinent than ever”.

Sessions for this year’s conference include:

  •     poverty alleviation
  •     the housing affordability crisis
  •     homelessness
  •     National Disability Insurance Scheme
  •     universal dental healthcare
  •     Closing the Gap
  •     education reform
  •     employment services and more.

There are two weeks left to register for early bird prices. Find out more at the ACOSS conference website.
