Finalists Announced for Community Sector Awards

The finalists for the HESTA Community Sector Awards later this month have been announced.

Described as the first ever community sector awards held in Australia, HESTA will present the awards along with Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), at an awards dinner during the ACOSS National Conference on March 25 in Adelaide.

ACOSS said that the awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations operating within the community sector.

“For the first time individuals and organisations working within the community service sector across Australia will have the opportunity to be recognised for the contribution they are making to improve the lives of people experiencing poverty and inequality,” ACOSS said in a statement.

The awards consist of three categories – and five individuals, organisations and programs have been nominated from each category.

Nominees in the three categories include:

David Burnet (The Yellow Van Food Rescue)
Carol Croce (Child Wise)
Angelhands Inc. (rep Amy Bowlay)

Organisation Award
Australian Drug Foundation (rep Maree Sidey)
Red Cross Migration Support Service (rep Lis De Vries)
White Ribbon Australia (rep Libby Davies (CEO) / Michelle Noon)
Carers Victoria (rep Caroline Mulcahy)
Toowoomba Youth Service (rep Michelle Wiersma)

Unsung Hero Award
Pamela Erwin – Oriel Services Ltd – HiCity Industries
Meron Morrison – Box Hill Citizens Advice Bureau
Anita Pell – Berry Street

The awards will be presented on the first night of the ACOSS National Conference being held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide on March 25 & 26.
