The Western Australian Government is offering $4 million to Not for Profits for crime prevention programs and to support victims of crime using funds derived from criminal assets seized by police.

The WA Government says its tough proceeds of crime laws are set to benefit victims of crime, with applications open for the latest round of Criminal Property Confiscation Grants.

WA Attorney General Michael Mischin urged local governments and Not for Profit community groups to apply for up to $200,000 in funding.

“Funding is available for projects to support crime victims, prevent or reduce drug-related crime and drug abuse or to aid law enforcement,”  Mischin said.

“The grants are funded by money and property seized from criminals by WA Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions under the State’s tough proceeds of crime laws.

“It is fitting that the laws are helping those who have suffered at the hands of criminals and for this round, we are especially urging groups who have a focus on helping victims of crime and who meet the grant criteria to consider applying for funding.

“In past rounds, there have been many worthy funding recipients dedicated to helping victims get their lives back on track and I encourage more groups to come forward.”

Previous grant recipients include Parkerville Children and Youth Care, which used their $200,000 grant to advocate on behalf of young victims of crime and their families.

The Fremantle Multicultural Centre also received $200,000 in a previous funding round to support women from different cultural backgrounds who were experiencing family violence.

Other recent grants have included $200,000 to Native Animal Rescue to engage at-risk youth by helping them rescue native fauna and clean up Perth’s waterways, and $198,868 to the Southern Wheatbelt-based Community Development Foundation to reduce vandalism and property damage in the local area.

The closing date for applications is Friday, September 19 at 5pm.
