The second offering of an Australian Not for Profit Fulbright Scholarship to undertake a program of research and professional development in the United States is now taking applications for 2014.

The 2014 Fulbright Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership, sponsored by the Origin Foundation and supported by the Australian Scholarships Foundation is now open for applications.

The scholarship provides an opportunity for an emerging leader in the NFP sector to undertake a 3-4 month professional development program or research in the United States.

In what was described as a world first, two Australians were awarded inaugural Fulbright Scholarships for the Not for Profit sector in 2013.
The two 2013 NFP Fulbright recipients were Dr Tessa Boyd-Caine and Andrew Tyndale.

Valued at $36,000, the 2014 scholarship provides for personal and professional development and broader impact through research, experiential learning or management training at an approved U.S. institution or charitable organisation.

The sponsors said applicants will delve into research or professional development that addresses contemporary issues of relevance, innovation, knowledge development, and impact on policy and practice in the NFP sector across any discipline or service area.

“Innovative applications which are able to articulate key issues that have the potential to lead to ongoing collaborative partnerships, develop skills and capabilities of the person and the NFP Sector, and which lead to a stronger bilateral relationship between Australia and the United States will be highly regarded,” the sponsors said.

Proud Fullbrighter Chancellor of University of Western Sydney, Professor Peter Shergold said he was delighted to support a scholarship that recognised the growing importance of the community sector in creating social impact.

“Australia needs to invest in the capacity of non-profit leadership and it is a great tribute to the Origin Foundation and Australian Scholarships Foundation that they recognise this through their significant five year commitment," he said.

“I know from experience that those who win the scholarship will be transformed by their learning and, as alumni, will contribute to the creation of a more caring and civic-minded Australia."
