The Australian Youth Mentoring Network has opened nominations for the 2014 Mentor of the Year Awards.

Run by the Australian Youth Mentoring Network, the Mentor of the Year Awards acknowledges the commitment made by dedicated mentors who volunteer their time and skills mentoring young people.

The Network says each State and Territory has the opportunity to nominate an individual for the State/Territory Mentor of the Year with each of the winners being put forward for the National Mentor of Year Award.

Bradley Grieve, CEO of the Australian Youth Mentoring Network says the Mentor of the Year Awards are an excellent opportunity to thank the scores of people who every day make an enormous contribution to the lives of young people in our community.

“I encourage organisations and individuals to take this opportunity to highlight a special person that they know, who generously give their time to mentor our young people.

“The sole criterion for the awards is excellence in mentoring,” Grieve said.

The Network says some of the qualities which can contribute to good mentoring include:

  • Demonstrates ability to build and nurture a relationship with a young person

  • Reflects mentoring in a positive light in the community and encourages greater participation in mentoring

  • Long-term commitment to mentoring

  • Inspires others to mentor by example and supports other mentors

The online nomination form can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BL6VKT6

Nominations close at 5.00pm on September 30th
