Helping LGBTIQ+ communities get their FabJab

LGBTQIA+ organisations across Victoria come together to help get the community vaccinated
As part of Rainbow Vaccination Week a group of youth, health and LGBTQIA+ organisations have joined together to support Victoria’s LGBTQIA+ community in accessing COVID-19 vaccines.
Those who work within the community say LGBTQIA+ support is an important aspect of Australia’s vaccine rollout.
This is particularly the case for trans and gender diverse people who might have had previous traumatic experiences in medical or clinical settings or have specific questions about how the vaccine interacts with certain medications or hormones.
Running from 18 -22 October, the “FabJab” campaign sees organisations such as Vincent Care, Switchboard, JOY Media, Thorne Harbour Health, Niche, Your Community Health, Drummond Street Services, and Transgender Victoria come together to ensure vaccination opportunities are promoted and available in a variety of locations.
Pop-up clinics have also been opened at Drummond St and the Victorian Pride Centre.
Both pop-ups are focusing on providing safe and welcoming spaces for those wanting to be vaccinated, with a team of volunteers on hand to support and guide people through the process.
The Drummond Street clinic is also welcoming people living in public housing, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, those with substance use issues, anyone living with disability and people experiencing homelessness.
