Trailblazers of Australian arts recognised

The award winners span music, visual art, dance, literature and more.
Eight leading lights of Australia’s arts industry have been honoured in the 2022 Australia Council Awards.
Jazz musician and composer Dr Judy Bailey OAM and senior pottery artist Judith Pungkarta Inkamala are among the winners of the awards, which recognise the contribution of outstanding artists to their artforms and to the cultural life of the nation.
Inkamala, a Western Arrernte woman, received the Australia Council Award for Visual Arts. Bailey received the Australia Council Don Banks Music Award, recognising her work as a trailblazer for female jazz musicians.
Australia Council CEO Adrian Collette AM said it was a “privilege” to recognise the artists and their work in connecting Australians and shaping the nation’s cultural identity.

- Dr Judy Bailey OAM – Australia Council Don Banks Music Award
- Judith Pungkarta Inkamala – Australia Council Visual Arts Award
- Dr Jenny Fraser – Australia Council Award for Emerging and Experimental Arts
- Helen Herbertson – Australia Council Award for Dance
- Susie Dee – Australia Council Award for Theatre
- Pat Rix – Australia Council Ros Bower Award for Community Arts and Cultural Development
- Leah Jing McIntosh – Australia Council Kirk Robson Award for Community Arts and Cultural Development
