NFPs Sign Up For Victorian Standard Chart of Accounts

Victorian Not for Profits are signing up for training in the new Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA) that will be soon be mandatory for all Victorian government departments and agencies.
The Victorian Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA) is a Victorian Government initiative coordinated by the Office for the Community Sector (OCS).
The Victorian SCOA wil¬l be mandatory for Victorian State Government departments and agencies for all new funding agreements with Not for Profit organisations from 1 July 2010. However the SCOA will not be mandatory for Not for Profits.
The Office of the Community Sector says however it makes sense for Not for Profits to align themselves with government to standardise accounting processes.
The OCS says already NFP’s from across the state have started to register for the free training sessions taking place in mid-March and April. The training sessions will explain the purpose and practical application of a Standard Chart of Accounts.
It says the Victorian SCOA will reduce the administrative burden for NFP organisations which have funding agreements with Victorian Government departments and agencies by simplifying requisite financial reporting.
The Office for the Community Sector was established in the Department of Planning and Community Development in 2008 to strengthen and support the community sector. The Victorian SCOA model was adopted by the Federal Government and is now being used in other states.
