From Disaster to Resilience for QLD Flood Victims

Volunteering Queensland has launched Australia’s first interactive online disaster preparedness tool.
The initiative comes in the wake of one of the major lessons from the disasters Queensland faced during the past summer – a lack of simple tools that help people prepare and be more resilient.
The tool is called the Readiness Index and Queenslanders are encouraged to use the Index to check their level of preparedness for extreme weather events and view an individualised improvement and action guide.
Queensland’s Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services,Neil Roberts launched the Readiness Index saying it would contribute to building Queensland’s resilience.
Volunteering Qld CEO, Jelenko Dragisic says that disaster preparedness is essential to both reducing the impact of natural disasters as well as building resilience within local communities.
Dragisic says that to date there hasn’t been any online interactive resources in this area.
He says the Readiness Index is a critical part of their Step Up Program which empowers people with the necessary knowledge, tools and resources to build community self-reliance.
