MS Australia Appoints New Chief Executive

Multiple Sclerosis Australia has announced that Debra Cerasa has been appointed to the role of chief executive.

MS Australia says Cerasa is an experienced and qualified senior executive in the health sector, with a diverse resume of experience.

Cerasa is the former chief of Royal College of Nursing Australia (RCNA), a position she held for four years. She was previously with International SOS in Indonesia as Country Clinic Manager followed by the Director of Clinical Services positions with Latrobe Regional Hospital in Victoria.

MS Australia President Rob Hubbard said that the new role was about creating a national voice for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) throughout the country.

“Multiple Sclerosis Australia’s role is to advocate for people with MS at the highest levels of government and be a voice for their issues in the community,” Hubbard said.

“I’m confident that Debra’s experience put her in good stead to be a powerful champion for our movement.”

Hubbard says that Cerasa will lead the organisation’s response to and readiness for the exciting prospect of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and work to raise the public awareness of issues facing people with MS.

“What a privilege it is to have been offered this opportunity to work with such a well-regarded organisation,” Cerasa said.

“The work that has been done around the states and territories by an extraordinary team of, staff, advocates and volunteers must be acknowledged and I look forward to joining the team.”
