NFP Fulbright Recipient Named

The General Manager of a Melbourne-based youth organisation has been named the 2014 recipient of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission Not for Profit scholarship.

Karen Hart of The Youth Junction Inc has been recognised as the recipient of this year’s Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership, sponsored by the Origin Foundation and supported by the Australian Scholarships Foundation (ASF).
The Youth Junction offers a specialised range of youth services to young people aged 12-25 years in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
The annually awarded Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership is designed to provide an opportunity for a leader in the NFP sector to undertake research in the United States for three to four months.
An individual scholarship is worth up to $40,000 for research and professional development in the US, The Origin Foundation has funded this scholarship opportunity for 2013-2017.
Karen Hart says she plans to study at the Nonprofit Centers Network at the Alliance Centre in Denver, Colorado from July to November 2014.
Her studies will focus on the critical success factors for implementation and ongoing operation of Not for Profit co-located centres in the US. She hopes to apply that knowledge to build effective centres in Australia upon her return.
I will be well positioned to investigate and build a robust case for policy and practice for the delivery of NFP Centres in Australia and, potentially, other parts of the world. This offers exciting potential for growth and development in this emerging field of research,” Hart said.
Hart holds a BA Hons. in Applied Social Work, an MSc in Social Science Research Methods and is currently completing a PhD through the College of Justice and Law at Victoria University.
She has also managed co-located youth service centres in Australia and the UK for many years.
