The Victoria Law Foundation and the Victorian Council of Social Services have launched a new guide to help Victorian community organisations establish better employment practices.
A new guide offers practical advice to help community organisations in Victoria establish transparent and effective processes around employment and management of staff.
Employing people is the latest in a series of guides developed by Victoria Law Foundation and VCOSS to help management groups (committees or boards) of community organisations.
Victoria Law Foundation Executive Director Joh Kirby said Employing people was a must-have guide for community organisations, particularly those with limited resources.
"It provides easy-to-understand, practical and up-to-date advice on important employment issues to help community organisations operate smoothly and efficiently," Kirby said.
VCOSS CEO Penny Wilson said, "VCOSS works extensively with our members to give them the support they need to deliver the services that our communities rely upon."
"We know that employing the right team members is integral to the success of any organisation."
Employing people covers:
- employment terms, conditions and regulations
- how to recruit the best staff to your community organisation
- how to manage termination, remuneration and employment records
- handy tips on managing staff performance and encouraging professional development
- the importance of occupational health and safety in your workplace.
To celebrate the launch of Employing people, Victoria Law Foundation and VCOSS are offering the VCOSS manuals as a pack for community organisations. The pack includes Employing People and the two existing titles, Community Management and Policies and Procedures. Pack price $75 (save $15).
