Pro Bono News, in partnership with Top Five Movement, has launched a new podcast exploring how leaders can better manage employee wellbeing
In times of crisis, it is important that leaders allow themselves to be vulnerable and share when they are struggling, the deputy CEO of Save the Children says.
Mat Tinkler, who is also Save the Children’s director of policy and international programs, spoke to Clare Desira for the first episode of the Leading Generous Teams podcast.
This collaboration between Pro Bono News and Clare Desira (Top Five Movement) is dedicated to improving the mindset, resilience, and mental health of people working in the social sector.
In this episode, Tinkler explains how Save the Children has handled the COVID-19 pandemic, and the quick decisions that needed to be made amid fears the organisation’s financial viability was under threat.
He also discusses how he is supporting the mindset of his workers, while managing his own mental health and balancing that with looking after three kids.
He said he realised he needed to be more vulnerable as a leader, and allow staff to have “guard down moments” where they are able to speak their mind in an open, judgement free environment.
